BURN RESPONSIBLY
BURN RESPONSIBLY
Check out our tips and tricks for a clean, long, and (most importantly) safe burn.
Light it
Let the wax in your candle melt completely to the edges of the container the first time you use it. This should take 1-2 hours depending on ambient temperature. This will help prevent “tunneling," where only the wax in the center of the candle melts.
If there is some tunneling, we suggest wrapping the top and sides with tin foil, with a substantial hole in the middle for the flame to have air. In about 1-2 hours, the wax on the sides of the jar will melt into an even pool.
Place the candle in a well-ventilated room but avoid drafts, as this can cause uneven wax take. If the flame is too high or flickers too much, extinguish and let it cool, then trim or break off the wick before relighting.
Watch it
Avoid using for more than 3 - 4 hours at a time. This is a safety precaution and can ensure that your candle burns evenly in the future.
Never leave a burning candle unattended, or light it near anything that might catch fire, and keep away from anything and anyone that moves unpredictably – such as children, pets, air drafts.
Prepare it
Trim wicks to ~5mm each time before burning, and clean wax and wick from any trimming or debris. If you don’t have a wick trimmer, breaking the tip of the candle with your fingers should do just fine as well.
All good things must come to an end - it will be time to say goodbye to your candle once there’s only about 1 cm of wax left at the bottom.
Clean it
Use a butter knife to loosen the remaining wax and pop out.
If there’s significant residue left:
fill the jar with boiling water to allow remaining wax to release from the bottom and let cool to harden or,
line a tray with parchment paper and heat the vessel upside down at about 160 degrees C in an oven – and the wax will melt off
While our wax is biodegradable and water-soluble, we recommend composting or throwing the hardened waste wax out rather than pouring down your drain.
Wipe off any remaining residue with soapy water and let dry before re-purposing your jar for other candles, tea lights, or to hold pens or accessories.
